sunscreen updates

The ginger human guinea-pig strikes again!

I’m still using my regulars–now that the sun is less intense, that means:

  • BurnOut Clean & Clear Eco-Sensitive SPF 32 (18.6% ZnO)
  • BurnOut SPF 32 coconut-flavoured lip balm (ditto)

But thinking of moving over to all-singing all-dancing all-zinc-oxide.
EXPERIMENT #1:

  • CoTZ SPF 35 (20% ZnO): I’d jettisoned this some months ago, but tried it out again selectively. It’s possible my skin’s being less reactive at the moment (which is always nice).
Testing out: mainly around the eyes, also using it up on arms, hands, etc. NOT on face: this stuff is still a no-no-NO on the more sensitive bits of skin around nose, also forehead, upper chest.
INGREDIENTS: Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (20%) (Sunscreen)
Inactive Ingredients: C12 15 Alkyl Benzoate, Capryl Hydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Cetyl/PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Disodium EDTA, Glycerin, Lauryl PEG PPG 18 18 Methicone, Methicone, PEG 10 Dimethicone, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Chloride, Stearyl Dimethicone, Tetrahexadecyl Ascorbate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Triethanolamine, Triethoxycaprylylsilane

EXPERIMENT #2:

The next experiments haven’t started yet. They’re still in the planning stage, i.e. the stuff has been bought.

I can at least confirm from earlier patch-testing that I don’t get contact dermatitis from any of these. While I’m as happy as ever to sacrifice my skin and wallet to the greater good of the greater number, in the interests of science knowledge and in the hope of opening up a wider range of available possibles to fellow-sensitives everywhere … happy to fo all that, but I’ll still patch-test first. Even if that means doing all sorts of sneaky things to cadge samples.

These ones will be being tested out as eye-area sunscreens, especially for winter, cooler weather, drier skin; as body sunscreens; and on assorted bits of face–essentially, to see on which parts of skin they’re comfortable and (as appropriate) aesthetically fit for human consumption.
